Corresponding pair of seated Fo-lion figures on square-cut pedestals with corresponding plaid, depicted with bulging eyes, wide-open mouth, long teeth and ferocious expression. Each lion is scratching its cheek with the left hind. Vividly modeled and with lustrous ‘Sancai’ glaze. Sancai (translated: ‘three colours’) is a lead-glazing technique, usually consisting of three different colours, which developed in China during the Tang Dynasty (618-907).
Shape: Naturalistic figures on flat squarecut pedestals with concave sides
Dimensions: 34 cm (overall height), 28 x 28 cm (pedestal)
Condition: Good condition with slight signs of wear. Both plinths show minor chips to some of the corners
