A Japanese Satsuma ware vase, Meiji period (1868-1912), of lobed form, painted with figures in a landscape in shaped panels, surrounded by dragons against a diapered ground, stamped mark to base , 31cm high Provenance: From the Collection of Alfred Augustus Field (1898-1977), who worked in Calcutta as a pharmacist from around 1920 until the early 1950s. During his time in India, his love of ceramics developed and he started collecting various pieces that interested him. His collection later passed to his daughter and thence by descent in the 1980s. Condition Report A small chip to rim, some gilt and enamel losses.
