A rare and important monumental pair of Daoguang period Chinese famille rose Water Margin floor vases, decorated with reserves depicting scenes from the fictional An Daoquan (Divine Physician), set against a ground accented with floral tendrils and auspicious fruits, the neck flanked by applied fu-lion form handles with chilong in relief on the shoulders, the everted foliate rim further accented with flowers of the four seasons. Each H: 133 cm.Not available for in-house P&PProvenance: Vendor advises these vases were purchased by family forbears from the Crystal Palace Great Exhibition 1851, though there is no supporting evidence of this.Condition Report: One vase has had professional restoration within the last 30 years, where there was a clean separation at the shoulders between the neck and the body. The attaching chilong figures have been re-modelled and re-glazed, with some small cracks present from the shoulders, no more than 10 cm. The other vase has had a loss of the head of one chilong. Otherwise, these vases are both in particularly fine condition.Warrington Auction endeavours to accurately describe the items being sold, but all property offered for sale is strictly as-is, where-is, and with all faults.
