A rare Chinese blue and white cup and saucer with a scene from Roman mythology, Qianlong, circa 1750, depicting Neptune holding a trident, being carried across the sea by a team of dolphins, the rim of the saucer is further decorated with a narrow diaper border, the dish 11cm diameter.(2)Other pieces with the same decoration include a pattipan in the Princessehof Museum, Leeuwarden, Netherlands (Jorg, 1982, no. 50), and a plate in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (Le Corbeiller, 1974, no. 28); a straining saucer in the Mottahedeh collection comes from a similar service with additional flower sprays (Howard and Ayers, 1978, vol. I, no. 336).According to Le Corbeiller, p. 66, no. 28, the design on the present lot was taken from an engraving by Frederick Bloemaert (1564-1651). For a plate with the same design from the Rijksmuseum, see Jörg, 1997, p. 277, no. 321.清乾隆 外销青花罗马神话故事图杯碟一组共两件品相报告: the saucer with fine glaze cracks largely to surface but some appear to go through to base small rim chip 1mm x 1mm and hair crack extending down approximately 1.5cm long cup handle with chip to top of handle approximately 6mm x 2mm
