玉蝉通体白玉製作，晶莹细腻，用料精巧；器形带有仿古色彩，是古代博古学盛行时的产物；整体圆雕做一对头尾相接的双蝉造型，《史记·屈原贾生列传》中载：“蝉蜕于浊秽，以浮游尘埃之外。”可以看出因为古人认为蝉具有本性高洁，入土重生，蜕变而新生的特征，对其十分喜爱。此件玉饰器形精巧怡人，适合做为佩戴装饰。
