阿弥陀佛（梵语Amitābha），又名无量佛、无量光佛、无量寿佛等。大乘经载，阿弥陀佛在过去久远劫时曾立大愿，建立西方净土，广渡无边众生，成就无量庄严功德，为大乘佛教所广为崇敬和弘扬。据佛经载，他过去作为菩萨时，名叫法藏，曾发了四十八愿，长期修行成佛，是主持西方极乐世界的教主。但在藏传佛教中认为无量光佛是原生的，无量寿佛是他的化身，又称“长寿佛”，是佛典记载继其成佛已有十劫之久，以光明无量和寿命无量普度众生。无量寿佛是佛教信仰中极为重要、流传广泛的尊神，既能满足世间众生对于寿命延长的追求，又能接引善良的众生死后超脱轮回之苦，往生美好的西方极乐世界。
