TSURUSAWA TANGEI (1687-1769) AND OTHERS EDO AND LATER, 18TH CENTURY AND LATER Three Japanese kakemono (hanging scroll paintings), one in ink and colour on paper with the depiction of a Kabuki actor dressed in red costume, with calligraphy above; the two other paintings in ink on paper, the first depicting Fukurokuju and a minogame, signed Tangeisai hitsu and with a red seal mark for Moriyoshi; and the other a scene depicting many craftsmen building a giant kotobuki (longevity) character, with a red seal mark, 40.5cm x 56cm max, one with box. (4) Tsurusawa Tangei was a Kano School painter working in the Edo period. He was the son of Tanzan (1655-1729) and a pupil of Kano Tan`yu. He became official painter to the Imperial Court in the Genroku era (1688-1703), and he was given the honorary title of Hogen.
