KISHI GANTAI (1782-1865) EDO PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY A set of six Japanese sumi-e kakemono (hanging scroll paintings), mounted as a six-fold byobu (screen), each depicting a large tiger, four signed Echizen no suke Gantai and two Gantai, each sealed Gantai and Kunchin, approx. 175cm x 376cm overall. Provenance: from the collection of Dr Oliver Impey (1936-2005), and Dr Jane (Mellanby) Impey (1938-2021), of Cumnor Place, Oxford. According to Oliver Impey`s archive, the screen was purchased at Glendining on 19th March 1963.
