*GEOFFREY EARLE WICKHAM (1919-2005) '3 Forms' abstract construction, aluminium, 32cm high x 23cm wideProvenance: The Collection of Bournemouth & Poole College. Geoffrey Wickham was a sculptor in a wide range of materials, painter, teacher and critic, born in Wembley, Middlesex. He studied at Willesden School of Art, 1935–8, under Ernest Heber Thompson, then at Royal College of Art, 1946–9, and was for many years principal lecturer in fine art at Sir John Cass School of Art. Wickham was elected a fellow of RBS in 1967 and won its Silver Medal in 1972, showing with AIA, SEA, Leicester and Upper Street Galleries and NEAC. Solo shows included Alwin Gallery, AIA and Arts Theatre Club. From 1982–5 he lived in Japan. After marriage to the potter Gisela Albrecht, Wickham married the artist Akiko Fujikawa. When Wickham’s work was shown at Hattingen Art Society, Germany, in 1989 it was strongly influenced by Japan and included rare representational sculpture.'Artists in Britain Since 1945' by David Buckman.
