A RARE CHINESE NEOLITHIC BLACK POTTERY JAR, SIWA CULTURE. Heavily-potted with a smooth burnished surface. Pottery from the Siwa culture found in Gansu and Qinghai provinces are usually of an orange or buff-coloured pottery. Examples such as this are particularly rare. Siwa Culture (c. 1350 BC). 21cm tall. For reference: a similar but smaller example is shown in the China Institute book 'Dawn of the Yellow Earth'. Provenance: from a Sussex collection assembled during the 1990s.Wear to surface expected with age with no obvious signs of repair.
