It is named after the archaeological site of Xinglongwa, found in the Aohan Banner district of Chifeng city, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It spans mainly across the south-eastern part of Inner Mongolia, Xiliao River area in west of Liaoning Province, as well as the area around Daling River. Jades of Xinglongwa are some of the earliest nephrite jades found within the Chinese border, dating to circa 6200 to 5400 BC.
