W: 21cmA Cloisonné 'Lions' Bowl, Middle Ming dynastywith rounded sides flaring to the rim, decorated in rich soft enamels on the exterior with a lively frieze of lions and ribboned brocade balls on a turquoise field, the interior with flowering lotus scroll around a central leaping carp medallionA Cloisonné enamel Jar with comparable decoration, from the Qing Court Collection, in the Palace Museum, Beijing, dated to the Middle Ming Dynasty, is illustrated as catalogue no.39 in 'The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, volume 43, Hong Kong 2002. The lion and ball scroll on the jar is very similar, particularly a white ball with a central trefoil which we see also on the present bowl. The white ground ruyi border on the shoulder of the jar is also identical to the border at the rim on this bowl.
