William Eric Thorpe - 'The Discovery on the Embankment', 20th century oil on canvas-board, signed recto, titled to Wapping Group exhibition label verso, 21.5cm x 28cm, within a hessian and painted wood frame. Note: 'RSS Discovery' was built specifically for Captain Scott's Antarctic expedition of 1901-4. The vessel was kept at a mooring in the centre of London on the Victoria Embankment near Westminster Bridge from 1936 until circa 1954.
