A PAIR OF GEORGE I GILTWOOD AND GESSO WALL MIRRORSIN THE MANNER OF MOORE & GUMLEY, CIRCA 1720Of slightly varying proportionsone 114cm high, 74cm wide, the other 119cm high, 72cm wideProvenance: Property from the Phillip Lucas Collection, Spitalfields HouseFor a mirror of comparable design see Graham Child, World Mirrors 1650-1900, p78, pl 50. The mirror shares the features of outset sides, acanthus plume and eagle heads grasping swags of flowers, these design elements not uncommon on tables as well as mirrors. They are in the manner of Moore and Gumley and the frames bear a strong resemblance to that of the mirror in the Untermeyer Collection. James Moore who flourished between 1708 and 1726, was in partnership with John Gumley and supplied mirrors to Erthig, Denbighshire.
