Description Bronze, signed `P. Puget, 1622` and `Pou.c Ciseleur, 1866`.23 1/4 in. high.Note: Milo of Croton was a Greek 6th century B.C. wrestler and military figure of heroic ability. He was from Magna Graecia, modern day Calabria, and is known to have led his fellow citizens to a military triumph over neighboring Sybaris in 510 B.C. The date of Milo`s death is unknown. According to legend, he was attempting to tear a tree apart when his hands became trapped in a crevice in the trunk, and a lion surprised and devoured him. This story has been depicted in literature and sculpture by Pierre Puget and Étienne-Maurice Falconet as well as other notable artists.Property of a European Collector品相报告: Condition Report In good overall condition.
