Property from a Collection formed by József Csetényi (1875–1956)Pieter Brueghel the YoungerBrussels 1564 - 1637/8 AntwerpThe peasant lawyeroil on oak panel51 x 84 cm.; 20⅛ x 33⅛ in.-約瑟夫・切泰尼(1875 – 1956)收藏小彼得・布呂赫爾1564年生於布魯塞爾,1637/8年卒於安特衛普《農民律師》油彩橡木畫板51 x 84 公分;20 ⅛ x 33 ⅛ 英寸品相: The following condition report is provided by Henry Gentle who is an external specialist and not an employee of Sotheby`s:The oak support is well preserved and chamfered, the wood grain runs horizontally.Later strips have been added to the top and bottom edges; the top edge having been slightly reduced and repaired. The panel has developed a slight convex bow to the bottom 5cm, a result of more open wood grain. The paint layer is stable and secure and in a good preserved condition with many of the finer details to the figures and objects in a good retained state.A semicircular repair to the very top edge, to a vertical line running parallel to the right edge and minor pin prick paint loss to certain darker areas can be detected. In the darker areas subtle modelling has been slightly compromised.Recent careful mitigation of some of these thinnesses has been undertaken to reduce the over exposed pale ground colour.Bold brushwork through the more heavily applied paint is well preserved and impasted passages are maintained.Good chromatic integrity and tonal values are retained."In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby`s is merely a subjective, qualified opinion. Prospective buyers should also refer to any Important Notices regarding this sale, which are printed in the Sale Catalogue.NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF BUSINESS PRINTED IN THE SALE CATALOGUE."来源1: József Csetényi (1875–1956) and his wife Erzsébet Csetényi (née Frisch) (1890–1981), Budapest, certainly by 1935 and probably acquired in the 1920s;Their daughter, Suzanne Csetényi, Brussels, 1948;Thence by descent to the present owner, her granddaughter. 来源2: K.
