Property from the Grasset CollectionJan Brueghel the ElderBrussels 1568 - 1625 AntwerpA wooded river landscape with a fish market and fishing boats near a villagesigned and dated lower left: BRUEGHEL 1619oil on copper40.6 x 59.1 cm.; 16 x 23½in.-格拉塞特典藏老楊・布呂赫爾1568年生於布魯塞爾,1625年卒於安特衛普《林中河景︰漁市場與漁船》款識︰藝術家簽名並紀年BRUEGHEL 1619(左下)油彩銅畫板40.6 x 59.1 公分;16 x 23 ½ 英寸品相: The following condition report is provided by Henry Gentle who is an external specialist and not an employee of Sotheby`s: The copper support is well preserved, it is flat without any undulations. There is a small 4cm curved raised ridge in the sky with minor paint loss. The paint layer is well preserved and is stable and secure. U-V light shows a scattering of microscopic pin prick paint losses across the sky and into the water that have been carefully and sensitively reduced with recent restoration. Fine details, particularly through the figures, are well preserved and the energetic textured brushwork and impasted highlights are retained. An area of natural thinness to the more thinly applied paint can be seen beneath the carts and horses in the foreground. Removal of a patchy discoloured varnish would improve the chromatic and tonal integrity of the composition. The buildings through the mid ground have lost some of their modelling, a result of compromised glazing in this area. Overall, the painting presents well. The signature is well preserved."In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report.
