Property from the Grasset CollectionPeter BinoitCologne circa 1590 - 1632 HanauStill life of lemons and pomegranates in a basket with a blue tit and a dragonfly, together with grapes, figs and plums in a gilt tazza and a mouse eating chestnuts, all on a ledgeoil on beechwood panel46.5 x 65.9 cm.; 18¼ x 26 in.-格拉塞特典藏彼得・比諾特約1590年生於科隆,1632年卒於哈瑙《靜物︰臺上籃子裡的檸檬、石榴、藍山雀和蜻蜓、鎏金高足淺盤上的葡萄、無花果和李子,在吃栗子的老鼠》油彩山毛櫸木畫板46.5 x 65.9 公分;18 ¼ x 26 英寸品相: The following condition report is provided by K&S Conservation Ltd. who are external specialists and not employees of Sotheby`s: The painting is presumed to be painted in oil on a single board, possibly beechwood. The grain direction is horizontal. On the reverse, towards either end of the panel there is a narrow vertical batten attached cross grain. This is presumably to decrease any natural curvature of the panel. There are many tool marks visible on the reverse. The panel retains its original thickness. The paint and ground layers are stable, with no signs of flaking or recent losses. The painting has passages of retouching, particularly so in the lower left foreground; some retouchings in the darker passages sit physically proud of the panel surface. Some correction of old retouchings have been undertaken recently. The varnish is somewhat discoloured, and locally streaky. There are accretions imbedded within the coating. Discoloured retouchings were matched to the patinated surrounding surface using Gamblin Conservation Colours, and the level of patination across the varnish surface was regularised by further glazing with the same material. The surface gloss is even and saturating."In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby`s is merely a subjective, qualified opinion.
