Having trained along side Whistler, Monet, Degas and Pissarro, Horton developed his own personal style, influenced by the Impressionists. His primary focus was the effects of light on shapes, and he would often paint the same landscape at different times of the day, exploring the variation in light and shadows. Horton would go on to be one of the main members of the American Impressionist movement alongside Mary Cassett and Childe Hassam.
