John Christoforou, Greek/British 1921-2014 - Head with Shape, 1958/59; mixed media on paper, signed, titled and dated on the reverse of the frame 'Christoforou Head with Shape c '58/'59', 75 x 55.5 cm (ARR) Provenance: with Gallery One, London (according to the label attached to the reverse) Note: In 1949 Christoforou had his first solo exhibition in London at the Twenty Brook Street Gallery. As his popularity grew, it was evident he was at the forefront of the 'New Figuration' movement founded in the 1960s. Christoforou went on to receive the award of the International Critics Association (ICA), London, and held exhibitions in Sweden, Belgium and Holland, with Galerie Birch presenting Christoforou´s first one-man exhibition in Denmark in 1966.
