His work was included in the celebrated British Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 1952, alongside Kenneth Armitage, Reg Butler, Lynn Chadwick, Geoffrey Clarke, Bernard Meadows, Eduardo Paolozzi and William Turnbull, after which critic Herbert Read dubbed the young group's shared aesthetic the 'Geometry of Fear'.
