A George III dark green and gilt chinoiserie japanned longcase clock with eight day movement striking on a bell, the 12-inch brass breakarch dial with silvered subsidiary strike/silent indicator to arch above a silvered chapter ring, framing a matt centre with silvered subsidiary seconds, date aperture and plaque inscribed 'Edwd Muddle CHATHAM', all cornered with cast and pierced gilt foliate scroll spandrels, the case with all-over gilt chinoiserie decoration, the arched hood with glazed door, above an arched trunk door and plinth base, height 214cm (lacking pendulum and weights). Note: Edward Muddle is a recorded clockmaker working in Chatham, Kent, from circa 1760 to 1779.
