A rare Japanese shallow bowl, 17th century, Japan, A Japanese porcelain saucer dish, decorated in green and blue enamel, iron-red, gold, and silver (tarnished to black). Not marked. An identical dish dated to 1660-1680 is in the Shibata Collection. It is interesting to note that the use of overglaze blue enameling on porcelain started in Japan round 1640, some 60 years before this was first employed by the Chinese potters during the Kangxi period around 1700.
