In these days $75,000 might not be so much to pay for a pair of bottles, provided they were filled, but $75,000 is a world of money to spend for two 8-inch high bottles that do not-contain one drop. Yet that is what M. Parish-Watson, a collector of Chinese porcelains and potteries, has just paid for the famous ‘Kitchener Chrysanthemum Bottles’, which just arrived from London. Back in 1909 Lord Kitchener went to China on official business, and after an imperial audience, was told he could take his choice of any pair of peachbloom vases in the imperial storehouse at Mukden. These were his choice. They were made in the Kang Hsi period, 1662-1721. We are honored to bring all of you this auction session with part of collectibles assembled from Lord Kitchener.
