Ryuryukyo Shinsai (1764–1820)Kubo Shunman (1757–1820)Two surimonoEdo period, 19th century Each a, woodblock print, surimono, embellished with metallic pigments and embossing, and comprising:- An arrangement of various pouches, a yatate (portable writing set) and a branch of plum blossom, from the series The Rabbit's Boastful Exploits (Usagi tegarabanashi), signed Shinsai, privately published, 1819- A mikoshi (religious palanquin for festivals), hawk tethered to a stand and a pheasant, sealed Shunman, privately published, circa 1810s Surimono, shikishiban: 13.5 x 14 cm., 5¼ x 5½ in. (the first)20.2 x 17.9 cm., 7 15⁄16 x 7 1⁄16 in. (the second)品相: The first, very good impression, good colour, some soiling and rubbing, paper thin in places, backed, slight wormage, small restorations to corners, top edge and at the centre of left and right edges, the reverse with traces of adhesive and a pencil inscription at lower left corner. The second, good impression and colour, soiled and rubbed, slight trimming, paper backing, small repairs at edges.The lot is sold in the condition it is in at the time of sale.
