钵是梵文的音译“体多罗”之略，亦称作“应量”、“应量器”等。比丘六物之一，原为僧侣吃饭用的餐具，在唐代流行的密教法事活动中，则表示能解除人间饥馁等诸苦，利乐众生。“当于恐怖处，饥渴障难处，应诵是真言，苦悉无有；钵真言大力，诸佛所加持，一切诸众生，由念除饥渴。”说明密宗赋予钵以济世救难的法力，也正是这种原因，使钵摆脱了僧食用具的通常定义，转而成为了权力等的象征。寺院主持的权威便集中在他持的钵盂上，圆寂之前，往往传给中意门徒，这就是人们常用的“继承衣体”一词的出处。本器圆口广腹，向下渐收，底平。铜钵外壁通素无纹，錾刻般若波罗密多心经，款乾明寺大法僧元文敬奉，为礼佛修行之佳器。
