Description Victorian inkstand, gilt sterling silver with scallop shell form lid having chased images of dolphins near the hinge and an ovolo banded rim, the conforming base with divided compartments, set upon four snail form feet, all with a gilded finish. Hallmarked for Robert Garrard II, London, 1870, to edge of body, underside of lids, and base. Not monogrammed. 2 5/8" H x 5" W x 5 3/4" D. 16.56 total troy ounces. Note: The London firm of Garrard & Co. succeeded Rundells as Royal Goldsmiths in 1843, under the new title of Crown Jewellers.
