Signed "J. Wopfner, 1922" lower right corner. Housed in a carved giltwood and painted frame with corner decoration. German label affixed en verso. 4 1/2" H x 6" W. Framed: 7 3/4" H x 9 1/4" W. In their moods, Wopfner's landscapes are often meditative and Wopfner himself wanted to be known as a "Holy Painter." His work borders on impressionism in his loose application of paint and gestural brushwork, and many of his paintings are based on drawings made en plein air.
