Description A large, detailed Russian icon in egg tempera and gesso on a slightly curved panel with kovcheg depicting the face of Jesus, known as the Image Not-Made-By-Hands or Acheiropoieta, appearing haloed on a textile or sheet carried by two haloed angels visible in the upper corners. The lower edge of the sheet is finely ornamented with decorative patterning. Greek letters IC XC (an abbreviation of Jesus Christ) flank the face and Russian text appears in lower and upper margins. 21" H x 18" W. First half of 19th century or earli品相报告: Condition Report Overall good condition with substantial chipping to paint along edges of panel and craquelure throughout. Gold or silver gilt in halos of Christ and angels has been rubbed away and shows traces of inpainting.
