Description Pair of Southern vernacular Hepplewhite mahogany shield back armchairs, likely Virginia, yellow pine secondary. Consisting of open shield backs with foliate and reed carved splats, curved arms supports that project slightly over the ends, trapezoidal slip seats and tapering reeded front legs and curved rear legs. Front seat rail of each chair with Roman numerals, indicating that they were part of a larger set. 37 1/2" H x 20" W x 14 3/4" D. Circa 1800.
