He worked with the visual merchandising team at Tiffany & Co. for many years, and the present lot was created by Heitmann for display in the jeweler's Fifth Avenue store windows. According to Erica Wilson: A Life in Stitches, Wilson and Vladimir Kagan saw this needlepoint roundel in the window at Tiffany & Co., and Kagan purchased it for Wilson as a Christmas gift. For several decades, it was installed in the entrance hall of Wilson and Kagan's Park Avenue apartment.PublishedLinda Eaton and Anne Hilker, Erica Wilson: A Life In Stitches, Winterthur, 2020, fig. 2.13 (the present lot illustrated)
