Albertus van Beest (Dutch American, 1820-1860). A large gallery size original antique oil painting on canvas. Painted in the American School style of the Early National Era. Titled, "Rebecca," a popular name for sailing s in the early 19th Century. A figural naval marine landscape with a profusion of sailing s and boats on a deep sea with crashing waves, mariner figures, and sea birds in flight, under a blue sky with darkening clouds. Brass name plate affixed to front with title, date, and artist name REBECCA 1859 ALBERTUS VAN BEEST. The artist was a putative follower of Jan Hendrik van de Laar (1807-1874). Presented in an ornate gilt frame carved to corners with decorative harpoon, ropes, buoys, and other nautical forms.Work Size: 39 x 72 in.Dimensions: 53 X 86.5 X 5.5 in.Condition: Good overall condition having average surface wear.
