Joe Selby (American, 1893-1960). An original oil painting on canvas board. A unique Florida marine seascape depicting the U.S.S. Atule, a U.S. Navy Balao class submarinemissioned during the height of the Second World War. A central naval vessel surrounded by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean near Port Everglades, with an ocean liner on the horizon to background, all under a blue South Florida sky. Artist signature and dated to lower right J SELBY 1955. Apanied by the maritime history of the submarine Atule, its service in the Pacific Theater of World War II, and postwar narrative, affixed to verso.
