Illustrated with eight engraved plates, each plate with two images; lacking engraved frontispiece. Contemporary full brown calf, stamped in blind and in gilt, rebacked with portions of original spine laid down, later black morocco spine label; all edges speckled red; front and rear free endpapers renewed; repairs along edges of prelims and first seven pages; bottom corner of pp. 437/438 clipped, but not affecting text; scattered minor soiling and spotting to text leaves; some leaves at rear with small dampstaining in fore-edge; contemporary owner signature on title-page; scattered marginalia. ESTC R25756A handsome copy of the first illustrated edition of Don Quixote in English, and the first edition of John Phillips's translation.
