He studied with such masters as Bernard Leach and Marguerite Wildenhain, and was with Voulkos at the renowned Otis Art Institute in 1959. McIntosh's created a large body of work, often simple vessels, colored with muted earth tones, blues and greens, and often, with geometric based patterns, such as circles and lines. He further experimented by circumventing the vessel altogether, creating large designed to be hung, as if canvas, or stacks of forms, either orbs or more angular shapes, as if sculpture.
