A 18th-19th century Chinese Folk Art well-carved wooden poly-chromed figure. Carved from a single piece of wood, Chinese warrior figure has a prayer opening in back for prayers, blessings and fortune. His right foot sits atop an animal, probably a dog and part of his foot is missing. This type of wood carving was probably used in a Joss House, or Temple. The statue has a carved opening in the back with cover for placement of prayers. The cover is intact and fits snugly, therefore we haven't tried to open it. The piece is intact with no cracks and minimal damage. The raised right hand has a small hole which probably held a warrior's spear-like bladed weapon (see photo). Good condition as an artifact exhibiting its age, history and patina. Very old, we haven't seen one in better condition. We are not experts in any one field, however we do research every item before we purchase it and when we sell it. We photograph and describe our items to the very best of our research and ability. Because all of our items are in used, loved, as-is condition, originally purchased during travels, or at estate sales and auctions they may contain unseen flaws or other minor imperfections.
