A Chinese cinnabar lacquer 'peach' box and cover , Qing Dynasty, 18th century, possibly depicting Zhang Guolao, one of the Eight Taoist Immortals with an attendant or an immortal and his servant in a landscape, the sides carved with bats and cranes amongst scrolling clouds, 16cm wide x 15cm deep x 9.5cm high Provenance: ‘Mr. Ko’ who worked for the Chinese Postal Service from 1904-1947 and then by direct family descent.清 18世纪 剔红仙人图桃型盒(带盖)拍品来源:中国邮政公司高级官员柯先生(生于意大利)于 1904-1947年之间在中国购得 the base with a crack approximately 8cm long and the rim with 2cm crack and 1.7cm x 4mm chip and a further chip to raised inner lip 7mm x 3mm and some other smaller chips; the cover with some fine hair cracks and possible old restoration, the inner black lacquer with extensive wear to gilt foliage
