This impressive teapot is unmarked but the shape is distinctively Amstel and the rare cut fruit decoration matches marked Amstel pieces. The unusual decoration was created in a stipple technique, the tip of the brush laying down individual pinpoints of color that the eye blends into subtle gradations of tone. Both of the painted fruit baskets overflow with pears, strawberries, plums, cherries, etc. Some are presented in the “sliced fruit” style, which was really popular at English porcelain factories a little earlier in the 18th century. The decoration here is sumptuous, one of the finest and most colorful designs produced by the Amstel factory, a triumph of Dutch porcelain production. This teapot dates c.1790-1800. The condition of the pot is exemplary, perfect, pristine, with no damage or wear, even to the gilding. The lid, sadly, has some damage: the flange that sits inside the pot has been repaired; both spurs that keep the lid from falling off the pot are chipped away, and there is a reglued flat chip on the top surface, not affecting the painted decoration. Easily restorable, but as you can see from the photos the chip on the lid is not that noticeable. Slight gilding wear to the finial. Five and a half inches high.
