SIX EARLY BROWN AESTHETIC TRANSFERWARE PLATES PALMYRA PATTERN Sampson Hancock Potteries Staffordshire England c. 1883 These are stunning transferware plates dateing to 1883. The large plates are 10 1/4 " in diameter. The color is a rich sepia or wonderful dark chocolate brown with hand painting in vibrant colors. The pattern is named PALMYRA, featuring a fantastic wide, busy band of sunflowers with a background of geometric shapes. The well of the platter has a central flower pot full of oversized sunflowers surrounded by rows of butterc and geometrical flourishes. The pieces are marked on the underside with an impressed registration mark, the pattern name the intials S. H. that identifies the maker as Sampson Hancock, a pottery maker working in the Staffordshire region of England from 1858-1891. Never Used. The plates are in fabulous condition. There are no chips, no cracks, no hairlines, and no repairs.
