A BLUE AND WHITE YENYEN VASE, KANGXI PERIODChina, 1662-1722. Painted in deep purplish underglaze blue with figures in mountainous river landscapes, on both the body and the neck a scholar converses with an attendant on a river bank while a fisherman is in a sampan in the river nearby. Note the finely graduated shades of blue, adding a third dimension to the magnificent scene.Provenance: The Holzapfel Collection (label to base). A Swedish private collection, formed during the 1950s and 1960s, acquired from the above, and thence by descent in the family.Condition: The mouth rim with a small chip and associated old fill. A U-shaped crack extending from there, with a section of the mouth broken off and sensitively reattached.
