The first one indicates the title of the scene, a stanza from a lyric by the Southern Song poet Xin Qiji (1140-1207) that laments the arrival of autumn. The second inscription mentions the twenty-four-year apart of the artist with Desput and expresses the artist's wish that his student would visit more often. The painting elegantly depicts seven lotuses in moist and pale ink. In contrast to the straight stems, the bending leaves are rendered in dark, dry ink interspersed in between. While the flowers sway in a harmonious rhythm between spacious intervals, the withering leaves delineated in flying-white and trembling strokes create commotion in the autumnal scene.T US Import TariffPlease note that this lot is subject to an import tariff of 7.5%.
