明正德十年祝允明任广东兴宁知县，后邀请当地学者刘天锡、张天赋、王希贤、李痒等人，据明成化旧志增修《兴宁县志》。祝允明亲撰序言，执笔写稿，为现存最早的地方志稿本。此稿为过云楼旧藏，解放后由顾公硕捐献，现藏苏州博物馆。据版权信息，此本共印一千三百本。
