砚铜质，其结构由几案与砚体两部分组成，以铜熔铸一体成型。座托几面四边设肩，四面设有壶门，四角设有卷云足。砚亦取传统砚式，略小于几面，砚面平坦，砚尾錾饰锦文，淌池砚岗处铸饰双鱼，双鱼间设横梁，并錾饰水浪纹，砚缘宽厚，缘面錾饰卷云纹。此砚造型设计讲究，铸造较为精致，錾刻工艺娴熟，并施以鎏金，且包浆盈实，气韵古拙，具有典型明代造型遗风。
