General Zhang Xueliang (1901-2001), also known as "The Young Marshal," was a Chinese warlord and military leader who played a significant role in the early 20th century's political and military struggles in China. He was the son of Zhang Zuolin, a powerful warlord in Northeast China, and became a prominent military commander in his own right. He is best known for his role in the Xi'an Incident in 1936, where he kidnapped Chiang Kai-shek, the leader of the Nationalist government, in an attempt to force him to form a united front with the Chinese Communist Party against the Japanese invasion.
