Alexei Matveivich Prokofiev was a Russian artist born in 1869 who is best known for his landscape paintings. He studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg, where he was a pupil of Ilya Repin. Prokofiev's paintings were characterized by their realism and attention to detail, and he was particularly skilled at capturing the effects of light and atmosphere. His works often depicted rural life in Russia, including scenes of peasants working in the fields and fishermen on the river. Prokofiev was a member of the Union of Russian Artists and his paintings were exhibited in numerous shows throughout his career.
