Drinking vessel without base with a spherical belly. On the underside a nine-leaf rosette within a circle. Above it a repeat of vertically upwards running, plastically protruding tongues, which ends just below the rim. On the border a gilded decorative band of approx. 1.5 cm width with incised decoration, bordered above and below by a narrow horizontal rib. Inside a waved tendril with leaves in wave crests and troughs. In only one of the crests, deviating from it, a bird. Above it again a repeat of vertically running tongues, this time with the round end pointing downwards. On the shoulder an Ionic cymation, followed by the retracted neck, which swings out funnel-shaped towards the rim. Height 11.2 cm. Width 9.5 cm. Apart from various smaller dents, generally already of antique origin, an excellently preserved Greek silver vessel. Provenance: Eastern German private collection.
