A small Chinese 'Yaozhou' celadon glazed 'chrysanthemum' bowl , Northern Song or Jin Dynasty, 12-13th century, of conical form, the interior crisply moulded with three stylized lotus flowers in full bloom borne on a meandering vine with further flower buds and dense scrolling leaves, all encircling a central bloom with radiating petals, the exterior carved with evenly spaced vertical lines, applied overall with an even olive-green glaze stopping neatly at the foot, e xhibition labels for Cape Town 1953, Radcliffe collection 'A26' and BADA, 10cm diameter A similar bowl is illustrated by Regina Krahl, Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang Collection , vol.1, London, 1994, p. 239, pl. 429, where it is mentioned that 'this design has come to light on Yaozhou ware discovered at the mid-Song layer of the Huangbaozhen kiln sites', see Shanxi tongchuan Yaozhou yao , 1965, p. 28, fig. 17 (3)' Provenance: Major Edward Copleston Radcliffe (1898-1967) collection and listed in the family archive, 'A26', as purchased from Sotheby's in 1945 for £8-0s-0d, but in the Bluett archive listed as purchased on commission for Major Radcliffe from Sotheby's, 1st July, 1943, from the collection of the late Sir Daniel Hall, lot 51 (part lot) Exhibited: National Gallery of South Africa, Chinese Exhibition, Cape Town, 1953, no. 83 北宋至金 耀州窑青釉缠枝花卉纹盏 拍品来源: Edward Copleston Radcliffe (1898-1967) 少校私人收藏(家族编号 C5 ),其于家族档案中记载为"1945年以8英镑购自苏富比",然而在Bluett的档案中则记载为"1943年7月1日承 Radcliffe 少校委托购自苏富比Danial Hall爵士收藏,拍品编号51号" Condition Report: very minor wear but in very nice condition
