A Chinese Export Famille Rose Mug , Qianlong, enamelled with a central coat-of-arms of Mercer of Aldie surmounted by a crest and flanked by feathery fronds, inscribed The Grit Poul and bearing the motto Crux Christi Nostra Corona, 13.5cm high Provenance: From a West Sussex Estate A plate with this armorial is illustrated in David Sanctuary Howard, Chinese Armorial Porcelain , Vol 1 (1974) p.536.
