AN ARCHAISTIC BI DISC WITH PHOENIXES AND CHILONGChina, 20th century. Skillfully carved in the style of the Han Dynasty using traditional techniques and demonstrating exceptional craftsmanship quality. Carved to both sides, the inner area is decorated with a pattern of densely arranged comma spirals, while the external band is carved in relief with archaic scroll and phoenixes, the disc surmounted by a pair of chilong facing opposite directions and flanking a confronted phoenix and mythical beast. The semi-translucent stone of a pale celadon tone with cloudy white and russet inclusions, and surface alterations.Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and minuscule nibbling here and there. Provenance: Estate of Wolfgang Zacke (1942-2022), co-founder of Galerie Zacke, thence by descent. Acquired in the Hong Kong antiques market in the early 1990s.
