竹黄工艺是以大型的南竹为材料，将新鲜的竹黄片，经过水煮、晾干、压平等工序，然后贴到各种形状的器物上。竹黄浅黄色，色泽光润，又有“文竹”、“贴黄”、“翻黄”等称。始创于湖南邵阳地区，制成的器物有匣、盒、盘、文具等。器物表面呈鹅黄色，清淡幽雅，大多为光素，很少有纹饰。清代时，浙江一带有人到湖南经商或游览，看见这种工艺制品，有的还得到亲朋的馈赠。
